  • Expected range of 65 miles, top speed of 45 mph
  • Tandem seating for two adults, with dedicated luggage space
  • Crafted entirely by hand, from authentic materials to match the original
  • Charging port concealed within ‘supercharger’ housing
  • Inspired by Team Car No. 2, the most famous, valuable and iconic Bentley in the world
  • 99 First Edition cars colour-matched to Team Car No. 2, complete with Union flags and unique details
  • Bentley Motors and The Little Car Company unveil a road-legal, 85 per cent scale recreation of the most famous Bentley in the world. ‘Blower Jnr’, a recreation of the 1929 4½-litre Supercharged Team Car No. 2 in Bentley’s Heritage Collection, is the first road-legal car from The Little Car Company and the most sophisticated city car ever built.

Crafted by hand to the same standards as any Bentley, and adorned with beautiful details all inspired by the original Team car, Blower Jnr is built around a 48V electric powertrain with a 15 kW (20 bhp) motor, meaning a top speed of 45 mph / 72 km/h in the UK and EU (25 mph / 40 km/h in the USA due to legislation) and an expected range of around 65 miles, with tandem seating for two adults.

Blower Jnr is a collaboration between The Little Car Company and Bentley’s  Heritage Collection. The original Team Car from 1929 – insured for £25m – was used by The Little Car Company to master the design of Blower Jnr, with details recreated at a sizeable 85 per cent scale. The result is a vehicle that will have even experts looking twice – with the car measuring 3.7 metres long and 1.5 metres wide. Unlike The Little Car Company’s other products, Blower Jnr is fully road legal and designed specifically to be used on the road.

    A Faithful Homage

Beyond the headline figures, the beauty of Blower Jnr is in the recreation and repurposing of details from the original car.

The frame is painted steel, to which an authentic chassis specification is attached. Leaf springs and scaled-down, period-correct friction dampers bring a comfortable ride, while Brembo disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear provide the stopping power. The electric motor is mounted across the rear axle, while the batteries and drive electronics are all housed in a hidden undertray.

The bodywork is crafted in two sections, and while the rear body structure is crafted in carbon fibre rather than being an ash frame, it’s covered in impregnated fabric, just as the original. The bonnet, with its multiple cooling louvres, is hand-crafted in aluminium using traditional techniques and fastened with beautiful leather buckled bonnet straps. The two-person cockpit is in a 1+1 layout, with a central adjustable driving position and the passenger travelling behind in the rear seat. An optional bespoke weekend bag fits behind, in the scaled down and repurposed fuel tank complete with lockable latch.

At the front of the car, the supercharger now houses the charging port that connects the onboard charger to any Type 1 or Type 2 socket. It’s surrounded by the famous Bentley mesh grille, in an authentic nickel-plated radiator housing.

At first glance the dashboard looks like a scaled-down replica of the original, with Engine Turned Aluminium forming the dashboard itself. The fuel pressure pump has been repurposed as the drive mode selector, with a choice of Comfort (2 kW), Bentley (8 kW) or Sport for maximum power of 15 kW. Forward, Neutral and Reverse are selected via a lever that looks and feels like the ignition advance control from the original Blower. Other switchgear for the headlights and indicators copies the form and materiality of the magneto switches from the Team Car, while the battery charge gauge recreates the original ammeter.

A USB charging point is discreetly concealed until required, and a dual-function display that serves as a Garmin satellite navigation screen and reversing camera completes the cabin.

    The First Edition

The first 99 examples of Blower Jnr will be First Edition Models. These will feature First Edition badging on the hood, door sill plate and dash as well as an engraved and numbered ‘1 of 99’ plaque. All First Edition models will be finished in Blower Green, with matching painted chassis and wheels, and a Union flag hand-painted on both sides of the body as per the original, while the seats and interior are upholstered in the Dark Green Lustrana Hide used by Mulliner for the Blower Continuation Series. The side panel and radiator carry the period-correct racing number, while the steering wheel is rope-bound.

The original Supercharged 4 ½ Litre ‘Blower’ Team Car No. 2

No other pre-war Bentley had an impact like the supercharged 4½-litre ‘Blower’ Bentley. While it never won an endurance race, the Blower Bentley was the outright fastest race car of the day, and counted amongst its fans the author Ian Fleming – who later decided that his famous fictional secret agent James Bond would drive a supercharged 4½-litre Bentley, with the often-associated rival British sports car merely the MI6 “pool car”.

The Blower Bentleys were born from a philosophy devised by Sir Tim Birkin – notable racing driver and Bentley Boy – to extract more speed from the racing Bentleys of the day. While W.O Bentley’s method was to increase engine capacity – from 3-litre, to 4½-litre, to 6½-litre – Birkin was impressed by the Roots-type supercharger developed by British engineer Amherst Villiers, which boosted the 4½’s power from 130 bhp to 240 bhp in race tune.  He persuaded Bentley Chairman Woolf Barnato to sanction production of 55 supercharged 4½-litre Bentleys, with five allocated for competition. The car on Bentley’s heritage fleet – UU 5872 – is the second of the four ‘Team’ cars developed at Birkin & Co’s workshops at Welwyn Garden City with funding from wealthy heiress the Hon. Dorothy Paget. The cars competed in twelve races, with the most famous being Team Car No. 2’s adventure at the 1930 Le Mans 24 Hours.

Team Car No. 2 was sympathetically restored in the 1960s, preserving much of its original patina. Owned by Bentley Motors since 2000, it has had only minor cosmetic maintenance, and is much as Birkin would have driven it. Since then it has competed in the modern Mille Miglia five times, has driven to Le Mans on several occasions and has also appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed as well as the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Team Car No. 2 inspired a highly exclusive edition of twelve Continuation Cars, each one an exact recreation handcrafted in the Mulliner Classic workshops using traditional techniques passed down through generations. The Blower Continuation Series is the world’s first pre-war continuation, and the final car is in the final stages of build now. A second Continuation Series of 12 Bentley Speed Six models is currently in development.

    Monterey Car Week Global Debut

Blower Jnr will make its world debut tonight in front of 100 VIPs at Monterey Car Week, ahead of a schedule of appearances across the weekend. Production is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2024, starting with the 99 First Edition models.

The First-Ever BMW i7 Protection, The New BMW 7 Series Protection. https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/the-first-ever-bmw-i7-protection-the-new-bmw-7-series-protection/ https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/the-first-ever-bmw-i7-protection-the-new-bmw-7-series-protection/#respond Mon, 14 Aug 2023 03:56:39 +0000 https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/?p=86406 BMW unveils a new generation of protection vehicles in the luxury sedan segment.

The two models developed on the basis of the new BMW 7 Series succeed in blending an unrivalled protection concept with outstanding levels of ride comfort and spaciousness, exceptionally advanced equipment features and the class-beating dynamic prowess for which the brand is renowned. As the world’s first ever protection sedan with an all-electric drive system, the BMW i7 Protection (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 30.0 kWh/100 km, provisional figure) is a genuine trailblazer. Driven by two powerful electric motors, it meets all the requirements of class VR9 protection without any limitations, as does the new combustion-engine BMW 7 Series Protection (fuel consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 15.6 l/100 km [18.1 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions: 355 g/km, provisional figures).

The integrated security concept of the new BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection was factored into the development of the new BMW 7 Series range. It centres around the new BMW Protection Core, which is unique worldwide and comprises the model-specific self-supporting body structure made from armour steel. This is then combined with features such as additional armouring for the underbody and roof and armoured glass. Both models will be built at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in an elaborate “craft manufacturing” process. The two protection vehicles are set to make their public debut at the IAA Mobility 2023 international motor show in Munich, with deliveries to customers requiring special protection commencing in December 2023.

The new protection models offer customised protection from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals. They have been classified as offering class VR9 protection based on the internationally recognised official test criteria of Germany’s Vereinigung der Prüfstellen für Angriffshemmende Materialien und Konstruktionen (Association of Test Laboratories for Attack-Resistant Materials and Constructions – VPAM, for short). The certification is based, among other things, on the third edition of the guidelines for Bullet Resistant Vehicles (VPAM BRV) with regard to ballistic resistance and the guidelines for Explosive Resistant Vehicles (VPAM ERV, third edition) and PAS 300 with regard to blast resistance. The glass for the two models even protects against fire from calibre 7.62×54 R ammunition — a threat from the highest civilian resistance class VPAM 10. A partial protection extension is also available as an option for the new BMW 7 Series Protection in defined bodywork areas against fire from VPAM 10 ammunition.

The first all-electric model in its protection category and offered exclusively in Europe, the BMW i7 Protection demonstrates how outstanding qualities in terms of security level, driving dynamics, ride comfort and interior comfort are perfectly compatible with a rigorous focus on sustainability. Its arrival sees the BMW Group once again acting as a pioneer in the field of locally emission-free mobility for individuals requiring special protection. At the IAA Mobility 2021 show, the company presented the BMW Concept iX5 Hydrogen Protection VR6, the first protection vehicle with a hydrogen-powered fuel-cell drive system to be certified anywhere in the world. It showcased the BMW Group’s ability to come up with sustainable solutions even in this specialised vehicle segment by applying its standout development expertise.

Innovative protection concept featuring unique BMW Protection Core.

The innovative protection concept for BMW’s new protection sedans is a product of traditional know-how combined with cutting-edge technology. BMW has now amassed 45 years of experience in the development and production of protection vehicles. The protection concept currently applied was devised as part of the series production development process for the new BMW 7 Series and, more than ever, offers major advantages over armouring a finished vehicle at a later date.

This is largely thanks to the unique BMW Protection Core, which sees the entire supporting structure for a protection sedan’s body constructed from armour steel for the first time. Its three-dimensionally engineered elements are all made of exceptionally resistant, hot-formed steel alloys. The BMW Protection Core forms a self-supporting protective cell, which is then combined with protection-spec doors, armouring for the underbody and safety glass.

Special armouring designed to offer maximum protection against explosives in particular has been used for both the roof and underbody of the two protection sedans. This means the occupants are also protected from drone attacks with explosive charges, for example, and from fragments dispersed by hand grenades on detonation.

Also to be found on the list of standard security features for the BMW 7 Series Protection is a self-sealing fuel tank, with special casing that enables it to seal itself after being hit by a bullet to prevent any loss of fuel.

As part of the certification process, the special protection elements must demonstrate their ability to resist attack by undergoing a demanding procedure. In addition to this, experts from an independent state testing institute conduct firearms and explosive tests on the vehicle. The official inspection and certification of the complete vehicle finally provides confirmation of the all-round protection offered by the holistic concept for the new protection vehicles from BMW.

Greater spaciousness, lower weight and sharper agility combined with uncompromising occupant protection.

The structural protection concept achieved with the pioneering BMW Protection Core endows the new BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection with an unrivalled set of characteristics. When seen from the outside, just a few details distinguish the two protection sedans from a regular 7 Series Sedan with the M Sport package. Their discreet and largely inconspicuous appearance on public roads represents an additional safety factor for people requiring protection.

The BMW Protection Core design principle has the added effect of increasing the cabin’s spaciousness. Thanks to the fully integrated protection concept, the levels of room and seating comfort in the front and rear hardly differ from those to be found inside a conventional BMW 7 Series Sedan in all key criteria.

The innovative protection concept used for the new BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection has additionally allowed their weight to be optimised compared with predecessor models. Not only does the weight saving result in a considerably higher load-carrying capacity, it also has a particularly positive effect on the protection sedans’ handling abilities. The optimised weight combines with the increase in body rigidity (another benefit of the BMW Protection Core) to deliver unrivalled levels of agility. This all translates into extremely precise handling control, excellent cornering dynamics and outstanding figures for acceleration and top speed.

BMW i7 Protection: outstanding security, zero tailpipe emissions and no compromises.

The BMW i7 Protection brings the all-electric mobility experience to the protection vehicle segment for the first time. Individuals requiring special protection are therefore able to choose a vehicle that requires no compromises to be made in terms of either security or sustainable drive technology.

The locally emission-free powertrain on board the BMW i7 Protection comprises one electric motor at the front axle and another at the rear. It uses numerous components taken from the drive system in the brand’s most powerful all-electric production model, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive (electric power consumption combined in WLTP cycle: 23.7 – 20.8 kWh/ 100 km), allowing it to deliver supreme performance. The two electric motors together create an electric all-wheel-drive system with a combined output of up to 400 kW/544 hp and maximum combined torque of 745 Newton metres (549 lb-ft).

The instantaneous power delivery, distribution of power to all four wheels and intelligent networking of all the powertrain and chassis systems guarantee exceptional traction, directional stability and dynamic prowess. The new BMW i7 Protection sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest in 9.0 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h (99 mph).

BMW 7 Series Protection: unwavering protection, superior dynamics.

The petrol-engined version of the new protection sedan has a latest-generation V8 unit under the bonnet. Its BMW TwinPower Turbo technology includes an upgraded turbocharging system with electrically operated blow-off valve and indirect charge air cooling, along with a cross-bank exhaust manifold. The new 4.4-litre eight-cylinder engine uses 48V mild hybrid technology to optimise power delivery and efficiency.

The new drive system generates maximum output of 390 kW/530 hp and peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system directs drive power to all four wheels as required. The new BMW 7 Series Protection combines superior driving dynamics with levels of efficiency that are also unrivalled. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.6 seconds and goes on to reach a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).

Model-specific chassis technology for assured performance.

The new BMW i7 Protection and BMW 7 Series Protection come with chassis technology that has been modified and tuned specifically for these models and makes allowance for the additional weight resulting from their special protection features. This produces superbly assured performance in any situation. Thanks to a robust basic construction and the presence of sophisticated chassis systems, passengers in the rear compartment are also able to enjoy exceptional levels of ride comfort. The protection sedans also make their mark with precisely controllable handling, even when they are being driven hard, such as when escaping from an attack.

Unique in the segment: Integral Active Steering.

The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are the first and only protection vehicles in their segments to be fitted with Integral Active Steering. This rear-wheel steering functionality not only reduces the car’s turning circle when manoeuvring, it also increases precision and the dynamic response through quickly taken corners. Another key attribute of Integral Active Steering – which is specified as standard – is how it enhances driving comfort for rear-seat passengers.

20-inch light-alloy wheels with exclusive PAX tyres.

The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are fitted with 20-inch light-alloy wheels, which represents a standout offering in their segments and enables the use of a particularly powerful braking system.

The model-specific light-alloy wheels in star-spoke design are fitted with tyres – supplied by Michelin in the dimensions 255-740 R510 – that have been specifically developed for the protection sedans. The large diameter of these tyres and the extremely high volume of air they hold compared with rivals enhance ride comfort, while the larger contact area benefits traction and driving stability. The PAX tyres have a runflat ring positioned on the wheel rim which allows the car to continue its journey at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even in the event of a total loss of pressure.

Driver assistance systems with information and warning function.

In keeping with their status as protection vehicles, the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are equipped with an extensive selection of driver assistance systems. The functionality of this tech is focused on supporting professional chauffeurs with information and warnings, but without actively intervening to control the vehicle.

The highly advanced sensors developed for the new BMW 7 Series range and all of the cameras available for the luxury sedan are also fitted on the protection vehicles. These provide precise and detailed information on the area around the vehicle in all situations. The requisite data and images are supplied by e.g. the parking view, Panorama View, Remote 3D View and BMW Drive Recorder functions included in the Parking Assistant Plus package. Also on hand are the alert functions of the front-collision warning, Crossroads Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Speed Limit Info systems.

Extensive comfort-enhancing features with exclusive details.

In order to optimise visibility out of the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection in low ambient temperatures, an electric heating function for both the windscreen and the front sections of the side windows comes as standard. Model-specific pre-heating is available as an option.

Another item on the options list is a cool box integrated between the rear seats to ensure the on-board drinks supplies are kept cold. Its net capacity of eight litres offers sufficient space for two water bottles and two glasses, which can be cooled to 4 or 10 degrees Celsius as desired.

The standard-fitted Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, meanwhile, lays on a high-end audio experience. The 1,265-watt digital amplifier, individually adjustable equalizers and 28 speakers combine to deliver a full, even sound for all those on board. The system also includes a pair of exciters integrated into each of the seats, which convert low bass frequencies into noticeable vibrations.

An exclusive convenience feature offered for the first time on a BMW model is motorised assistance for opening and closing the doors, which comes as standard. It is available immediately after unlocking the car and reduces the force required to open or close the armoured doors. Also unique in this segment is a function that enables occupants to close the doors automatically at the touch of a button after climbing in.

Passengers in the second row of seats in the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection benefit from electrically operated roller sunblinds for the windows on both sides. The blinds extend horizontally from the B-pillar towards the C-pillar and offer what is known as a spy position. Here, the sunblind opens by around ten centimetres at the touch of a button to allow a view outside. From this position, passengers have the option of opening or closing the sunblind fully. A model-specific roller sunblind for the rear window is also included as standard.

Broad range of options for individualising the exterior and interior.

The integrated protection concept of the protection sedans and production at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing maximise the scope for customers to put their personal touch on the exterior and interior. Offered as an option alongside the standard illuminated BMW kidney Iconic Glow are the BMW crystal headlights Iconic Glow. The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection can be specified in almost all of the body colours available for the new BMW 7 Series range. These include the BMW Individual paint finishes and BMW Individual special paint finishes. The exterior design options are closely aligned with those available for the standard versions of the cars and allow the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection to maintain a low-profile presence in public areas.

The appointments and design of the interior can likewise be adapted to personal needs and desires at a detail level. Multifunction seats, BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated seats for the front and rear occupants are all part of standard specification. A massage function can be specified for all seats as an option. The optional Executive Lounge includes comfort seats with a reclining function for the rear seat behind the front passenger. The range of optional seat and interior surfaces is also carried over from the richly varied options list for the new BMW 7 Series.

BMW iDrive with BMW Curved Display and integrated operation of model-specific security functions.

The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection are equipped with the latest generation of BMW iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5. The system is intuitive to use and operates in a way that will be familiar to BMW drivers. The driver can therefore view all the important information on the BMW Curved Display at the right time and in the right place within their direct line of sight. The special functions relevant to occupant protection are also operated via BMW iDrive. They can be activated and controlled in full using the touchscreen capability of the control display.

A camera-based additional interior mirror can be specified as an option. This shows the image feed from the Reversing Assist Camera in the control display’s panorama view at all driving speeds and on any kind of route. The electronic additional interior mirror is unique in the protection vehicles segment in this form.

The standard-fitted intercom system allows the car’s occupants to communicate with people on the outside without having to open doors or windows. Key features here are microphones integrated into the exterior mirrors, an outside speaker, the hands-free microphone embedded in the headliner and supplementary speakers in the interior. Added to which, a rod microphone can be fitted as an option in the centre console storage tray to enable effective communication with people outside the car even when the windows are closed.

Effective protection measures for a variety of attack scenarios.

With their wide-ranging standard and optional equipment features, the new protection sedans from BMW offer custom-spec protection in attack scenarios of various types. The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection can be tailored precisely to any purpose, with items including a fresh-air supply system, a fire extinguisher with automatic and manual discharge, flashing lights, radio transceivers and flag poles for when the car is on official duty, plus other special customer-specific options.

Security built in from the start: integrated protection concept, service provided worldwide by trained experts, special driver training.

The many years of experience amassed by BMW in the manufacture of protection vehicles has enabled the company to achieve outstanding levels of protection with the new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection – as, most notably, has the decision to develop these vehicles alongside the standard variants of the new BMW 7 Series. The new BMW i7 Protection and new BMW 7 Series Protection offer built-in security from the factory. Unlike retrofit solutions carried out by an external provider, the integral protection concept of these vehicles ensures not only maximum security under armed attack, but also well-resolved handling and the dynamic responses expected of a BMW in dangerous situations. The development expertise of the world’s most successful premium carmaker has produced a wealth of innovative functions that allow people requiring special protection to enjoy an even safer and more secure mobility experience. The smooth integration of the model-specific protection features within the BMW iDrive system helps ensure these features are intuitive, safe and comfortable for the driver to use in any situation.

Customers around the world can take advantage of individual and discreet consultancy arrangements and an array of other services. For example, specific customer requests can be accommodated when it comes to equipping their vehicle with additional protection and/or convenience features. Service and maintenance for the protection sedans are provided by an international network of BMW service outlets, with the work carried out exclusively by trained experts in certified specialist workshops.

BMW also offers special Protection driver training courses. The rear section of the platform features a multi-link suspension design, attached to a rigid high-torsion rear body frame that facilitates consistent suspension input/travel during acceleration, deceleration and steering moments.

The GA-K platform provides ample legroom for rear passengers. RX guests will also enjoy generous cargo space and a low back door trim to decrease loading height.

    A Powertrain for Everyone

    RX 350 (FWD/AWD)

The 275-hp turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine realizes 317 lb.-ft. of torque and high output thanks to several advanced technologies like a center injection system (for more stable combustion), lightweight, spherical lipless pistons (for high-speed combustion), and a continuously variable capacity oil pump (to modify discharge volume based on running conditions). A short-ratio eight-speed Direct Shift-8AT offers a shift control program that provides smooth acceleration and deceleration. The electronically controlled full-time AWD constantly varies the front-to-rear driving force distribution from 75:25 to 50:50 (depending on situation) to achieve an optimal contact patch and linear steering feel.

    RX 350h (AWD)

A hybrid motor coupled with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine with 246 total system horsepower and 233 lb.-ft. of torque is teamed with a high-output, low-resistance nickel-metal hydride battery that offers a high level of output and fuel economy. The 216-cell battery is located below the rear seat, thus enabling passenger comfort and providing storage capacity. RX HEV can be equipped with E-Four, Lexus’ innovative all-wheel drive system which places a motor at the rear axle for near-instantaneous drive force application in low-grip or acceleration scenarios.

    RX 450h+ (AWD)

Powered by a high-capacity lithium-ion battery paired with a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine (shared with NX), the 2024 RX 450h+ hybrid system has a manufacturer-estimated combined 83 MPGe rating. The system provides luxury performance and consistent acceleration off the line with an estimated 6.2 second 0-60 time. The RX 450h+ has an EPA-estimated 35-mile driving range rating on electric power only.

The RX450h+ comes equipped with a Level 1 vehicle-charging cable for 120V outlets and all models are equipped with a J1772 (Type 1) socket for at-home and public charging. A high-output, high-efficiency system designed to reduce power loss when converting from AC power to DC power results in faster charging times. Using the maximum charging current of 240V and under ideal conditions, the Lexus RX 450h+ can be fully charged in approximately two-and-a-half hours with the standard 6.6 kW Onboard Charger.

The RX 450h+ utilizes an electronically controlled, full-time AWD system for a confident, sporty driving experience, led by Lexus Driving Signature vehicle fundamentals. Optimizing front and rear torque distribution according to the driving conditions, the driver can control the vehicle as preferred throughout varied road conditions and driving styles.

RX 500h F SPORT Performance AWD

A next level of dynamism is realized by the high-performance hybrid 271-hp 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four that’s matched to a six-speed automatic gearbox and integrated Power Control Unit and electric motor. At the rear, an 80-kW eAxle consisting of an inverter and motor provides near-instantaneous power to the rear wheels. Together with a high-output, low-resistance nickel-metal hydride battery, the system produces 366 hp and 406 lb.-ft. of torque total. A DIRECT4 all-wheel drive system orchestrates a seamless, direct application of drive force between the front and rear axles in milliseconds, thus improving handling, controllability, and feel. Body movement is also minimized for more pleasant ride comfort.

    Suspension

MacPherson front struts provide sharp turn-in and confident, linear handling. Suspension arms and bushings absorb the passing road’s high frequency vibrations and shocks. The rear’s five-arm multi-link setup is compact, yielding additional cabin space for passengers, cargo, and, for hybrid powertrains, battery pack placement.

Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) (available on F SPORT Handling and F SPORT Performance)

RX’s available AVS system provides a comfortable ride, stability, and superior steering response. AVS uses linear solenoid-type actuators to modify shock absorbers’ damping force with near-instant adjustments that are based on driving operation and road conditions.

    Braking

Two-piston calipers biting on 13.39-inch front and rear rotors help to curb speed smoothly. For F SPORT Handling and F SPORT Performance, composed braking arrives via opposed six-piston aluminum calipers and 15.74-inch front rotors. The opposed calipers are 2.4 pounds lighter than those used on the LS and LC.

    Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS)

F SPORT Performance’s available DRS system can provide impressive maneuverability. During higher speed maneuvers, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels to give clear, stable turning response. At slower speed, the rear wheels can seamlessly turn in the opposite direction as the front wheels for seamless low speed maneuverability. The DRS system allows for a maximum of 4 degrees steering angle – in phase or counter phase to the front wheels depending on speed.

    Bold, Alluring Design

    Exterior Features

A seamless grille at the front provides a strong, clean presence, and marks the origination of the spindle body that expresses athleticism and finesse in a sophisticated, dynamic shape. RX’s optimized proportions reflect the platform’s low center of gravity, while the available 19- or 21-inch wheels add stunning flair. At the rear, a single lens taillamp wraps around the body, further emphasizing the RX’s wide and low silhouette.

Enhanced aerodynamics equates to enhanced handling and control. The 2024 RX’s front fascia’s refined shape efficiently directs airflow around the spindle body while cooling its brakes. Other aerodynamic elements include flush window and door molding, a rear spoiler, and dimpled underbody covers.

F SPORT Performance grade brings exclusive front and rear bumpers, and a piano black grille and accents. Its exclusive 21-inch wheels wear Michelin® Pilot Sport® tires made from a bespoke compound and tread pattern. Additional black accents and body-colored sills distinguish the Performance model.

The 2024 RX is offered in 10 exterior color options depending on grade: Ultra White, Eminent White Pearl, Cloudburst Gray, Iridium, Caviar, Matador Red Mica, Copper Crest, Nori Green Pearl, Nightfall Mica and Grecian Water.

    Interior Features

Inside the RX, the driver-focused cockpit design vision, inspired by the Lexus Driving Signature, intuitively orients all essential controls and information (e.g., gauges, available Head-Up Display, meters, etc.) within the driver’s reach and forward sightline, and directs the space’s expansive, minimalist layout.

Small items can be stowed in several convenient locations. A front cubby located ahead of the gearshift features a front-rear sliding lid and houses an available Qi-compatible wireless mobile device charger and USB connection. The central console box can be opened from either the driver or passenger side.

Front seats have been designed for accessibility, superior ergonomic comfort, and excellent holding capability, even during the longest of commutes or road trips. Passengers in the available 40/20/40 power split-folding rear seat can charge their mobile devices on two USB Type-C outlets (six USB ports are found throughout the vehicle) or an available single AC power socket. The rear seats are available with power folding capabilities and available cooling and heating functions.

The 2024 RX is offered in six interior color options with four ornamentation styles depending on grade. Interior colors: Macadamia, Black, Birch, Palomino, Peppercorn and Rioja Red. Ornamentation styles: Black Cascade, Ash Bamboo, Black Open Pore and Dark Graphite Aluminum.

An indirect illumination system resides seamlessly throughout the cabin as an expression of omotenashi. Lighting from a palette of 64 colors and 14 themes can be selected to best match a driver’s mood and energy.

For the F SPORT Handling and F SPORT Performance grades, an exclusive steering wheel and meter reside in front of the driver, while pedals are trimmed with aluminum. The sporty metal decorates the cabin, specifically at the dashboard and cup holder surrounds. Grade-specific front seats offer bolstering during cornering. Rioja Red and Black color themes can be selected for an athletic look and feel. F SPORT Performance models are even more distinct with darkened side sill and steering wheel logos.

How To Research A Used Car https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/how-to-research-a-used-car/ https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/how-to-research-a-used-car/#respond Thu, 10 Aug 2023 01:50:05 +0000 https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/?p=86538 For many people, buying a used car is even more of an adventure than getting one brand new. Used vehicles tend to offer considerably more value for money, opening up the opportunity that you could bag a bargain.

Most cars lose between 30% and 50% of their value in the first five years. Roadworthy fixer-uppers with less popular colors or makes can have even bigger discounts, and we’ve not even talked about mileage yet!

But how do you get the very best deal? That’s the topic of this post. We explore all your options and the stages you need to go through to find the ideal used car for your purposes.

    Start By Setting A Budget

When it comes to researching used cars in stock, it can be tempting to put the slider to the maximum and salivate over the second-hand Ferraris and Lambos for sale. But try not to fall into that trap if you can help it. Budget creep is real, and you may find yourself trying to spend more than you can afford.

Instead, sit down and think about what you really want to pay for a used car. Then take a look at the types of vehicles you can get for that money.

Remember, used cars are often dramatically cheaper than their brand-new counterparts. That means you can get a luxurious ride for a fraction of the original cost (even when you include inflation).

Just be wary if you see an ultra-luxurious car from the past selling at a major discount. The upkeep can be enormously expensive, even if the upfront price is low.

    Study

The next step is to study various sources to find out how much the car will actually cost to buy. Don’t assume you know the price after consulting a single website. Look at classified ads, car listings, and online dealerships. Make sure you go to sites that compare the price of vehicles from multiple sources to determine whether you are getting the best deal. Avoid the temptation to simply go with the first person you meet selling the car you want. Almost always, doing your homework and putting effort into studying the market will help you.

    Perform Vehicle History Checks

    Perform Vehicle History Checks

    Source: Unsplash

If there’s a particular model you want to buy, make sure you do all the usual vehicle history checks. Check all the documentation and ask the person selling it to provide a service history, showing you the work done on the vehicle. If you live in a country that requires annual vehicle checks, ensure these are complete, too.

If a vehicle’s paperwork isn’t complete, it could mean more than some hefty repair bills. If the owner is actually someone else, not the person selling it, law enforcement may confiscate the vehicle and take you in for questioning. Always be careful and, if in doubt, go to a verifiable dealer.

    Read The Reviews

Besides looking high and low on used car sales sites, you should also read the reviews of the original vehicle. Find out whether other drivers thought it was any good and whether you should invest in it

Reading the reviews can provide you with a lot of information about whether the car is the right choice for you. You might like the price and how the vehicle looks, but if the luggage compartment is too small or it doesn’t accommodate the right tow bar, it could be the wrong choice.

Reviews can also hint at the vehicle’s quality. The best vehicles should easily last 150,000 miles and probably more, so look for two, five, and ten-year follow-ups, if applicable.

You can also research average maintenance cost statistics for your make and model. Again, these can reflect the reliability of the car and how much the average owner has to spend on it.

Check How Much It Will Be Worth In The Future

Checking the resale value of any vehicle is challenging because you don’t really know until you come to sell it. However, you can get hints about what your car is worth by looking at how much older models and similar vehicles from other brands sold after a certain age and mileage.

When it comes to used cars, mileage tends to be the most critical factor. Many older vehicles sell for a similar price to newer ones if the number of the odometer is low.

Therefore, take the number of miles you’ll travel every year into consideration to estimate your vehicle’s total mileage after, say, five years. Then cross-check this with the value of vehicles that have driven this distance. You can then subtract this number from the sale price of the vehicle today to get the expected depreciation (the money you’ll lose over time).

If you’re buying a cheap car, this figure is usually small and doesn’t matter a great deal. However, if it is an expensive car, it matters more.

    Find Reputable Sellers

You’ll also want to search for reputable sellers. You can buy from private individuals, but it comes with risks, especially if you don’t understand the paperwork fully.

Reputable sellers often have fixed locations in towns and cities. Established dealerships have dozens of cars on the forecourt and hundreds of positive online reviews. Professionals also offer a warranty, and many will provide your used car with a basic service before you drive it off.

If you see a deal that seems too good to be true, avoid it. The car might have been written off or it may not have paperwork to prove the person selling it owns it.

Remember, vehicle crime is more likely with older vehicles because they have fewer security features. Keep your wits about you.

    Inspect It Pre-Purchase

Similar to a house, you can also get a pre-purchase inspection on a car. Here, a trained mechanic takes a look over the vehicle and tells you whether they think there are any serious issues with it before you buy it.

Inspections can reveal all sorts of things, from broken spark plugs to rattling brake calipers. The mechanic will usually provide you with a list of problems and the cost associated with fixing them. Some issues don’t require any immediate intervention, but many others do.

Take It for A Test Drive

You’ll also want to take any used car you intend to buy for a test drive. A short run around the local area tells you whether it is something you want to drive and whether it feels right to you. It will also reveal any issues, like a loose clutch or grinding gears.

When test-driving the vehicle, check all its features. Make sure the windscreen wipers work and that the radio turns on. Check the seat movement and inspect all the lights to ensure they are road legal.

When activating the jet wash for the rear windscreen, make sure cleaning fluid doesn’t spray onto your knees from a broken line under the steering column. Also, look for mold or signs of pest infestation on the upholstery.

    Negotiate The Price

    Car

Once you have all the information you need, you are in a position to negotiate the price. Most car dealers will try to charge a significant markup over the true market value of the vehicle, but many are also willing to flog vehicles cheaply if it means freeing up space in their inventory.

If the car doesn’t have complete service history documentation, point this out and ask for a better deal. Also, check the identity of the previous owner and run the car’s registration through a police database. Usually, it will be able to tell you if it is lost, stolen, or written off.

Most people selling cars are trying their luck, seeing how much you will pay. Therefore, always press them on the price and see if they are willing to budge. If they do, it usually means they are charging a markup. Don’t try to go too low, though, because they may decide to hold out and sell the vehicle to someone willing to pay more.

    Take Some Time Out

Don’t rush into a new vehicle purchase immediately. Instead, sleep on it and consider whether it is the best option for you.

You’ll often find that a good night’s rest provides you with a different perspective on a purchase. Sometimes, it gives you closure and peace. Waking up, you know you are making the right decision. Other times, it reminds you that you are doing something foolish with your money and should stop.

    Complete All The Paperwork

If you decide to go ahead with a vehicle purchase, you need to complete all the paperwork to ensure it is yours. You’ll need to make the full payment to the owner and arrange financing separately. Most dealers don’t offer in-house finance products.

The final step is to transfer ownership. Dealers and private sellers do this by adjusting the name of the ownership form and filing it with the relevant authorities.

Congratulations: now you’re the proud owner of a used vehicle.

Making Your Vehicle Profitable and Practical for Your Business https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/making-your-vehicle-profitable-and-practical-for-your-business/ https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/making-your-vehicle-profitable-and-practical-for-your-business/#respond Wed, 09 Aug 2023 00:51:29 +0000 https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/?p=86475 As a business owner you will need to make a number of big financial decisions that can affect the future of your company. One of these decisions could be about buying a company vehicle to help keep your business running effectively and smoothly. Having a company van or car may be an essential part of keeping your business afloat, so how do you make it a profitable and practical asset for your business? Whether you’re using vehicle signs to add personalized branding to your company car, or you’re making considerations to upgrade to an electric vehicle to do your part for the environment, there are so many different things you can do to make sure your vehicle is practical and profitable.

    Choose The Right Sized Vehicle

When you take the leap to invest in a company vehicle, you need to make sure that it is the correct size and it can do everything you need it to do. For example, if you usually use your car to do long journeys or commutes, you will need a reliable engine suitable for long distance travel. Similarly, if you tend to pack up your vehicle with large items you will also need plenty of space in the trunk, or potentially a van instead. Write down everything you require from your new company vehicle and stick to it when you are making your final decision.

Make Sure You Can Afford the Upkeep

It’s one thing to be able to afford to purchase a new vehicle for your business, but are you able to afford the upkeep and manage the maintenance? Having an extra car or van is an expense you will need to budget for within your business, so keep this in mind before you make your purchase. You may also want to consider leasing a vehicle, as this could be spread out in manageable monthly payments. Look into your options and see whether it would be better to lease or buy your new vehicle outright.

Add Additional Storage to the Roof

Once you have invested in your new vehicle, you may want to think about what you can add to it in order to create more space and make it more practical for everyday use. You could look into rhino roof racks which are extremely useful for commercial vehicles, as it provides plenty of additional storage for everything you may need. Do some research on the options available to you, and you’ll soon find the right accessories and storage for your van or car.

    Consider an Electric Vehicle

Electric vehicles are not only great for the environment, but they could also potentially save you a lot of money too. Charging up an electric vehicle can be much cheaper to buy than fuel, so it’s worth doing some number crunching and figuring out whether an EV is the right choice for your business. If you’re worried about doing long journeys and driving an electric car, you’re definitely not alone; a lot of drivers have to plan their routes out depending on available charging points. There are special apps on your phone that can help you map out the correct route so that you are never caught short without any charge in your car.

    Get The Right Insurance

If you’re using a car for business purposes you will need specific insurance so that you are covered for all eventualities. This is extremely important as it protects your vehicle, yourself and whoever might be driving the vehicle at the time. You don’t want to get caught short with the incorrect coverage, so make sure you read the small print when you choose your insurance.

    Ensure the Car is Reliable

Having a reliable car is a no-brainer, especially if it’s for your business. There is no point in getting a vehicle that is on its last legs or one that doesn’t have a good service history. Although buying a newer car is a big expense, it will be much more reliable and less likely to cost you money down the line. Make sure you have an honest conversation with your car salesman about the car’s history so you can make that judgment for yourself.

    Think About Interior Technology

There are certain interior gadgets that might make your life easier when driving your new vehicle for your business. Satellite navigation systems and bluetooth technology are always handy when you’re out and about on the road doing errands for your business. Some of these pieces of tech may cost more to set-up, but they could make your vehicle much more practical for everyday business usage.

Use Signage and Branding on Your Vehicle

There is no use in having a vehicle if you don’t use it as a free marketing opportunity. Adding some subtle branding with a phone number, email address and business name will help to spread the word of your business whilst you’re out and about on the road. When it comes to branding  your business vehicle, it’s a no-brainer if you want some simple, quick and inexpensive advertising, so this is something to consider as soon as you make your purchase.

A company vehicle can be a huge asset to your business, but only if you make the right choices from the outset. As the business owner, it is your responsibility to make sure that you opt for the right vehicle and choose the best possible options that suit your needs and budget. Whether you require a small van with an additional roof rack, or you need good interior technology, you need to assess your needs and make practical choices. Your business vehicle should enable you to make more money, rather than burning a hole in your company pocket. Before you take the leap into investing in a new vehicle make sure it’s going to be worth your while. Then, once you have made the right decision for your business, you can start thinking of ways to get the most out of your business vehi

  • Lightest 911 of the 992 generation
  • 0-liter boxer engine with 518 hp and maximum engine speed of 9,000 rpm
  • Lightweight clutch and a shortened constant axle ratio
  • Optional ‘60 Years of the 911’ Heritage Design Package
  • S. debut to take place at Rennsport Reunion 7 from September 28 to October 1, 2023
  • Porsche is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the 911 with a special edition built for maximum driving enjoyment: in a limited run of 1,963 examples, the Porsche 911 S/T offers lightweight design and a pure, undiluted driving experience. For the first time, the 518 hp, high-revving engine from the 911 GT3 RS delivers its power to the road via a manual transmission and lightweight clutch.

To mark the special anniversary of the iconic 911 sports car, the engineers in Weissach have designed a sports car dedicated to driving enjoyment in its purest form: the 2024 Porsche 911 S/T. The exclusive anniversary model unites the strengths of the 911 GT3 with Touring Package and the 911 GT3 RS and delivers a unique combination of agility and driving dynamics. It combines the naturally aspirated, 518 hp 4.0-liter boxer engine from the 911 GT3 RS with a close-ratio manual transmission. This is complemented by lightweight construction and a chassis setup optimized for agility and drivability. The 911 S/T weighs just 3,056 lbs., making it the lightest model of the 992 generation. The optional Heritage Design Package draws inspiration from the racing version of the 911 S from the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The design of the anniversary model incorporated GT and motorsport expertise from Porsche. This is reflected in its particularly nimble and agile handling, which is designed for winding country roads. Reduced rotating mass in the engine, wheels, and brakes ensures particularly dynamic responsiveness. Every steering movement, every ounce of pressure on the accelerator or brake is implemented immediately and with pinpoint precision. Unlike the track-focused 911 GT3 RS, the 911 S/T is meant for journeys on public roads.

The name marks out the new 911 S/T as the descendant of a particularly performance-focused version of the first-generation 911. From 1969, Porsche offered a special race version of the 911 S. Internally, these vehicles were called 911 ST. Modifications to the chassis, wheels, engine and body significantly improved acceleration, braking, traction and cornering grip. Large spoilers and other aerodynamic aids were not yet used in these models. The new 911 S/T takes up the spirit of the original 911 S (ST) and transfers it to the current model generation of the Porsche 911. The anniversary model combines elements of the 911 GT3 RS with the body of the 911 GT3 with Touring Package and supplements it with lightweight components specially developed for the 911 S/T. The result is a unique driving experience within the 911 GT portfolio.

Lightweight construction from the fenders to the clutch

Among other measures, the 911 S/T achieves its particularly agile and direct handling through consistent lightweight design. The hood, roof, front fenders and the doors with their striking inlets are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), as are the rear axle anti-roll bar and shear panel (stiffening element on the rear axle). Porsche also fits the anniversary model with magnesium wheels, the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system, a lithium-ion starter battery and lightweight glass, all as standard. With reduced insulation, the omission of rear-axle steering and weight savings in the powertrain, the 911 S/T achieves a curb weight of just 3,056 lbs. This makes the car 70 lbs. lighter than a manual 911 GT3 Touring.

Porsche engineers developed a new lightweight clutch exclusively for the 911 S/T. In conjunction with a single-mass flywheel, it reduces the weight of the rotating mass by approximately 23 lbs. This noticeably improves the responsiveness of the naturally aspirated boxer engine, which now builds revs with especially bracing speed and directness. Coupled with a six-speed manual transmission with a shorter gear ratio than on the 911 GT3, the high-revving engine in the 911 S/T responds to input with striking urgency. It propels the 911 S/T to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and can achieve a top track speed of 186 mph. The exhilarating driving experience is heightened by the compelling soundscape of the standard lightweight Sport Exhaust system. The 911 S/T is the only 911 of the current generation to combine a double-wishbone front-axle design with a multi-link rear axle without rear-axle steering. The dampers and control systems were tuned accordingly.

The aerodynamics of the 911 S/T are also optimized for the road use rather than the racetrack. The anniversary model is equipped as standard with a Gurney flap on the extending rear spoiler. Standard equipment also includes 20-inch (front) and 21-inch (rear) lightweight center-locking magnesium wheels. Ultra-high-performance 255/35 ZR 20 tires, meanwhile, ensure a high level of mechanical grip at the front of the car. On the rear, the 911 S/T features 315/30 ZR 21 tires. CFRP full bucket seats come as standard. The four-way-adjustable Sports Seat Plus is available at no extra charge. The instrument cluster and the clock of the Chrono package are finished in a classic green Porsche color scheme.

The 911 S/T is offered with an optional exclusive Heritage Design Package. The new exterior color Shore Blue Metallic and the wheel rim color Ceramica are exclusively available for this particularly elegant variant. On the doors, a starting number from 0 to 99 as well as a decorative foil can be applied on request. The classic-style Porsche crest from the original 911 that adorns the front, the center caps of the wheels, the steering wheel, the headrests and the car key underscores the historic roots of the 911 S/T. The interior also features cloth seat centers in Classic Cognac with black pinstripes, which are another homage to heritage. Two-tone semi-aniline leather trim in Black/Classic Cognac with extensive leather surrounds, a roof lining in perforated Dinamica, and other elements from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur round out the package. The Porsche logo and the 911 S/T model designation on the rear of the car are in Gold.

Porsche Design is exclusively offering customers of the 911 S/T customers the option to buy a special watch: Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T. Featuring a titanium case, uncoated and blasted for weight-saving reasons, this exclusive timepiece goes all in on the lightweight design principle of the new purist 911 special edition. The heart of the chronograph is the Porsche Design WERK 01.240 with its COSC certification and flyback function. It is operated with a rotor in the design of the magnesium wheel of the 911 S/T. Each chronograph comes with a range of accessories that includes a unique watch plaque featuring the 911 S/T image and the individual limitation number. The Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T will be available to order from Porsche Centers and Porsche Design Stores, and retails at $13,500 (RRP).

The new Porsche 911 S/T carries an MSRP of $290,000 excluding $1,650 for delivery, processing and handling. U.S. deliveries are expected to begin in Spring, 2024.

    Lexus Safety System+ 3.0

One of the hallmarks of RX’s success is its dependable safety and convenience features. The 2024 Lexus RX 450h+comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which provides additional features and an available driver monitor system.

Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection

Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection is designed to help detect a vehicle, pedestrian, bicyclist or motorcyclist and provide an audio/visual forward collision warning under certain circumstances. If the driver does not react, the system is designed to provide automatic emergency braking at speeds between approximately 7-110 mph. PCS uses a camera and millimeter-wave radar for enhanced performance and reliability.

    Proactive Driving Assist (PDA)

When system operating conditions are met, using the vehicle’s camera and radar, Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) provides gentle braking into curves or gentle braking and/or steering to help control distance between your vehicle and a preceding vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist.

    Road Sign Assist

Using an intelligent camera, Road Sign Assist (RSA) is designed to detect speed limit signs, stop signs, Do Not Enter signs, yield signs and certain warning signs, and display an icon of the sign on the Multi-Information Display (MID).

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)

When white/yellow lane markings or certain road edge boundary lines are detected at speeds above 30 mph, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA) is designed to issue an audio/visual lane departure warning if an inadvertent lane departure is detected. If the driver does not take corrective action, the system is also designed to provide gentle corrective steering for lane keeping assistance.

    Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)

When Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) is enabled and lane markers are detected, Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) uses the lines on the road and/or preceding vehicles to provide active driving assistance and help keep the vehicle centered in its lane.

Intelligent High Beam – provides greater visibility for drivers with added illumination when the road ahead is clear, then temporarily switches to low beams when it detects the headlamps or taillamps of vehicles ahead.

All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Curve Speed Management (DRCC)

An adaptive cruise control system intended for highway use that uses radar and camera technology to help keep the vehicle at a preset speed and distance from vehicles ahead, even in stop-and-go traffic. If the system detects the vehicle getting closer than the preset distance, it automatically slows the vehicle — even to a complete stop. At highway speeds, when the road ahead clears, the vehicle returns to its preset speed. For LSS+ 3.0, the Curve Speed Management feature is added, which will aid to manage speed in curves when cruise control is engaged and may lower vehicle speed if needed.
